What We Believe
The churches of Christ (Romans 16:16) have no official doctrine or creed except the Bible. We believe the Bible to be God's inspired word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It is our desire to "speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent." Therefore, in telling you what we believe about any given subject, we will let the Bible do the speaking.
Concerning Jesus Christ
We Believe That Jesus Christ is…
"the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16).
That He…
"existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross"
(Philippians 2:6-8).
And That He…
"was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:4).
Concerning Sin
"…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
(Romans 3:23).
"…your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear" (Isaiah 59:2).
"…the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
Concerning Salvation
We Believe In Order to Be Saved One Must:
1. Hear the Word, because…
"…faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ" (Romans 10:17).
2. "Believe in the Lord Jesus…" (Acts 16:31).
3. "…repent and turn to God…" (Acts 26:20)
4. "…confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord…" (Romans 10:9)
5. "…be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name" (Acts 22:16).
6. "…walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1:7).
Concerning Worship
John 4:24
"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Hebrews 13:15
Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.
Concerning Women's Role in Worship
1 Timothy 2:11-12
Let a woman quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
Concerning Leadership of the Church - Elders and Deacons
1 Timothy 3:1-10
It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, uncontentious, free from the love of money. He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?); and not a new convert, lest he become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he may not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain, but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach.
